The Republican National Convention is under way, and President Donald Trump is using this week’s event not only to accept the nomination as the Republican Party’s nominee for President… but he’s also using it as forum to highlight America’s greatness.
And while it’s true that Trump does trail his opponent, Joe Biden, in major polls… Trump is about to get a major bump from this group of critical voters.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time for Trump!
As first reported by Newsmax, according to a The Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, voters who consider themselves "in play" for the 2020 presidential election give President Donald Trump a 10-point edge in those that hold a "positive" view of the president vs. those who have a "positive" view of Joe Biden.
In other words, swing voters are heavily in favor of Trump!
"These voters as a group have characteristics that suggest they are open to Mr. Trump and his party," the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. "Some 22% have a positive image of Mr. Trump, while only 11% have a positive image of Mr. Biden, the July poll found.
"They prefer a candidate who will confront the Washington establishment, a hallmark of Mr. Trump's pitch to voters, over one who makes an appeal based on competence and compassion, key themes during the Democratic convention. In addition, these voters want Republicans to lead the next Congress rather than Democrats, 42% to 25%."
So, what makes these voters gravitate towards Trump?
According to the report, it’s the economy.
In terms of the handling of the economy, often a No. 1 issue for voters in past presidential elections, Trump (48%) holds a 10-point lead on Biden (38%), per the poll.
"Mr. Trump is still favored on the economy, and that's the top issue people are using to decide their vote," Republican pollster Micah Roberts told the Journal.
This is all perfect timing for Trump. It’s likely that he will get a post-convention bump in addition to this surge of swing voters.
