Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t throw anymore haymakers, long-time Democratic strategist James Carville just predicted the unthinkable.
According to a report from Newsmax, Carville says there's a 50% chance President Donald Trump drops out of the race and will have the "worst Monday of his life" when the Afghanistan story continues to "explode."
"No one is scared of Donald Trump. He's not going to run," Carville said Sunday during an appearance on MSNBC.
The Afghanistan story Carville is referring to is about a New York Times story from last Friday that the U.S. months ago determined that a Russian military intelligence unit offered Taliban-linked militants bounties to kill U.S. and coalition soldiers in Afghanistan.
Over the weekend, The White House denied that Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were briefed on the matter but did not dispute the validity of the intelligence as described in the Times report.
Carville also knocked Trump for retweeting a video of an apparent supporter saying "white power" in response to protesters.
"Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!" Trump wrote in the tweet. Roughly three hours later, the tweet no longer appeared in Trump's timeline.
But for Carville to say that Trump will QUIT seems extremely unlikely.
For one, there are no reputable Republican challengers out there – especially this late in the game.
And, Trump continues to poll very well in states that are projected to lean towards Joe Biden. For instance, according to a Trafalgar Group poll released Sunday, Trump leads Biden by a slim margin in swing-state Wisconsin.
According to Newsmax, Georgia-based political strategist Robert Cahaly, who owns the Trafalgar Group, was the only pollster in 2016 to predict Trump's upset victory over Hillary Clinton.
